Welcome to my portfolio! Here's a little bit about me.
From the time that I was 4 years old, I knew that I wanted to be a marine biologist. I was always fascinated with the ocean and the life that it harbored. As I grew into adulthood, further knowledge on marine ecosystems and conservation has only deepened my love and appreciation for the ocean over the years. I have come to realize that there is an infinite amount of information in multiple different niches, and I enjoy learning more every day! There are a few avenues of interest that I am still exploring, however I am primarily interested in research of marine megafauna, conservation and outreach, and media production.
Outside of my career interests, my hobbies include diving, playing and writing music, surfing, hiking, photography, hanging out with friends and meeting new people, and anything involving the outdoors!
Goals
Academic Goals
A current short-term academic goal of mine is to get my 2023-2024 research on public perceptions / public comment data relating to fishing regulations and North Atlantic right whale conservation published. This would be an extreme accomplishment for me, and am hoping that it will be beneficial to the scientific community, as well as open up future opportunities for my career.
Although conducting this research has been a long process, it has been incredibly rewarding. I have fallen in love with every step involving research planning, field work, analyzing data, and the writing process. I would love to continue learning about other components of observational research and expand my knowledge by taking more courses relating to the use of drones and technical equipment. I would also like to gain more experience with experimental research.
I recently graduated from my masters program, and would like to continue to explore my interests more and gain more knowledge before I decide if I would like to pursue a PhD in the future.
Professional Goals
While I am still exploring interests involving a future long-term career, my overall goal is to collaborate with others and contribute to a continuous effort in further knowledge and conservation for our oceans.
I hope to gain new skills, as well as build on the skills that I already possess and incorporate them into my career. I currently am a certified Protected Species Observer and PADI Open Water Instructor. I am also a certified CPR and First Aid Instructor, PADI certified scientific freediver, and an AAUS scientific diver. One goal of mine is to eventually get my 100-ton captain's license.
Further professional goals of mine include gaining more field work and research experience, building professional relationships, and continuing to learn from my coworkers, friends, and mentors.
